North Cotabato: Lake Agko, Mahomanoy Mountain Resort

The resort

This is the  most amazing day, for the leaping greenly spirits of trees, and for the blue dream of sky and for everything which is natural, which is infinite, which is yes.”   ~e.e. cummings

Here comes the new year of 2011 and another great outdoor adventure waiting  to  explore and experience.

Been travelling mostly to Eastern, Northern and Southern part of Mindanao for the past years and it would be nice to explore the western part of Mindanao. Kidapawan City is  under the Province of Cotabato  and 110 Kilometers from Davao City. In the highland area of this city named Barangay Ilomavis  which mean Ilocano – Manobo – Visaya lies Lake Agko and Mahomanoy Resort. It took 35 Minutes before we arrived from Sidapan Habal Habal Station in front of Iglesia Ni Kristo Church. The road is cemented for the first 8 Kilometers I guess and the rest is rough. It is a very accessible place for 4 wheeled vehicles.

Cold Spring Pool

Lush greeneries are all around the area and Mount Apo is visible as long as it is not covered with clouds. Cool Breeze of air wraps my face as we went along uphill.

Our Habal habal(Skylab) driver who is resides at Mua-an for 12 years said that people living within Barangay Ilomavis are provided  with free  power and light, water as well as children’s schooling through PNOC. No idea how true it is.

Barangay Ilomavis is located at the very foot of the Philippines highest peak, Mt. Apo. Mahomanoy Mountain Resort boasts with a 25 meter outdoor swimming pool as well as Children’s pool. It has a store, shower and comfort room, natural Spa, Camping Grounds, Open Native Cottages as well as closed rooms with built in comfort room that you can rent for 500 pesos overnight.

The flowing spring water of the swimming pool is so cold even on high noon since sunshine seldom can be seen due to fog always envelope the area – Mist and Rain is always.

The natural spa is steaming hot but I cannot handle the sulfur smell it releases.  It also has a hot spring pool with hot gushing water through a pipe coming from the mountains which is tolerable.

The resort is 5 kilometers away from the jump-off site when Climbing Mount Apo via Ilomavis/Kidapawan Trail.

Outside the Resort lies some small stores that caters basic needs from Selling candies to slippers as well as plants. Indeed it is a good relaxing stay at this resort. Remove fear in visiting this area as people with different beliefs, ethnicity here are living in harmony with nature.
